Marilyn Gilbert Artists Management Presents Featuring The Arriaga String Quartet, Michael Guttman, Richard Raymond, Joel Quarrington, James Campbell, Susan Hoeppner, James McKay, Louis-Phillipe Marsolais & “Pork Belly Futures” July 4th – July 7th “The musical desert known as Toronto in the summer gave birth to a welcome oasis Tuesday night, when The Toronto Summer Chamber Music Festival presented it’s debut concert on the stage of the CBC’s Glenn Gould Studio…it is a new beginning, and a promising one at that.” --William Littler, The Toronto Star
TORONTO – April 14, 2006: Without a doubt, one of the most exciting and ambitious musical events of recent times was last summer’s auspicious debut of The Toronto Summer Chamber Music Festival. The Festival was conceived and produced by Marilyn Gilbert, Director of Marilyn Gilbert Artists Management, with brilliant Belgian violinist, Michael Guttman, serving as Artistic Director.
This year’s Festival (currently the only summer Chamber Music Festival of it’s kind in Toronto) will again be presented at the magnificent Glenn Gould Studio, in what promises to be another exciting and creative programme. For 2006, Gilbert and Guttman have assembled an incredible line-up of artists and created three intriguing evenings of Chamber Music—some of which may push the boundaries, and challenge established ideas.
Featured artists will include (from Brussels, Belgium) “The Arriaga String Quartet”, which includes fellow-Belgians Michael Guttman and Ivo Lintermans on violins, Mark Tooten on viola and Luc Tooten on cello; bassist Joel Quarrington; clarinetist James Campbell; Montreal pianist, Richard Raymond, flautist Susan Hoeppner and French horn player, Louis-Phillipe Marsolais.
The Festival will open on July 4th, with “Composers in Exile”, which will feature a variety of ensembles performing works by Georges Onslow, Bela Bartok, Lukas Foss and Hans Eisler. On July 5th, “Richard Raymond and Friends”, will feature the noted Montreal pianist, and include works by Reubke, Wagner, Liszt and Chopin. July 7th will be an “All Schubert Concert” performed by Octet, Quintet and Quartet ensembles followed by the dynamic roots/blues band “Pork Belly Futures”. |
